Gas Safety Inspections

Central Heating Boilers, Gas Fires and Cookers. – Each year it is mandatory to have your gas appliance inspected. It is a requirement as a minimum, you should have a Gas Safety Inspection carried out to ensure that there are no Gas leaks on your system which are not always noticeable to the sense of smell and just as importantly that no products of combustion (POC) are leaking back into yours or neighbouring property. Carbon Monoxide is an odourless, Poisonous Gas which can be fatal and should not be left un-attended.

These are two of the main reasons that all Gas Appliances should be inspected annually. Prevention first, because unfortunately there is no cure for death. (Be wise and do not leave it until next year).

Central heating boilers do not need to be serviced every year, but they do need to have a safety inspection. Servicing is only required at intervals specified by the manufacturer, usually up to 3-5 years, this when certain gaskets and seals have to be changed and for the heat exchanger to be thoroughly cleaned. (Cleaning this beforehand only breaks down the integratory of the chamber seals) This is not required. Safety checks are generally labour only cost visits, Service visits generally incur extra material costs which will be quoted for on enquiry.

Gas Fires and Cookers are general safety checks unless any parts of said appliances have broken and will need replacing (ie. Knobs, Glass, Piezo Ignitors, Seals and so on) that said a Gas Fire will need to be removed to check the integrity of the flue and catchment area, this takes a little more time. Do not leave appliances which have broken fittings or seals because these could constitute to further part failures and dangers. (Be wise and don’t leave it until next year)
